I think we agree in most things and the things we don't aren't much of an issue. But maybe the disagreement is what we mean when we say "literal". I think it's going to the argument of what do we mean when we say scripture is inspired, maybe? I can believe (and do believe) that the Bible is wholly inspired by God. That does not necessarily mean that I find it infallible though. I do not, for example, believe that an actual dragon with seven (#?) horns is going to fight with Christ at the end of the world. I do not believe that God placed His hand over Moses as He passed by, because I don't believe God has hands. That's what I mean by a literal interpretation. But that does not mean that I don't believe the Bible is true in all it says.

What I see in those that fit the label as I have heard it described anyway, is a more wholesome presentation of christianity, of Jesus and his religion. These folks beliefs are more on what is perceived to be the New Covenant. Where the teaching is that God, the ultimate good, is Love, this image of God is within all, live is about Choice, will we return that love to it source, and share it with our fellows, or not. Jesus called on His followers to learn to "be perfect, even as the Creator is perfect".

There is no way to consolidate everything that is in the bible. You must heavily reinterpret or dismiss something. What better way to do that than on the basis of the self-proclaimed most important rule? From all interpretations I've heard this is one of the most sound.

There is more connection between authoritarian religious regimes (like a Muslim theocracy) and the authoritarian ideological regimes of Stalin, Mao, Hitler, etc., than exists between murder and atheism.
